Curing times

Fibrecoat is a moisture-curing system which means that the curing times displayed are typical for a British summers day. Variations in curing characteristics can be expected between different weather conditions and temperatures. While the product will take 30 mins to become waterproof, the basecoat will require a 24 hour curing cycle before the finishing system can be applied.

For more information about your specific requirements talk to one of our technical services team or request a free site survey from an Allbase Approved Contractor.

Applications

The major advantage of Fibrecoat is the products versatility and flexibility, which allows the system to be used in a number of different scenarios.

While providing the perfect foundations for solar panels or green roofing, the cold-applied fibreglass roofing system is also a perfect choice for flat roofs, balconies or walkways and can even be used to replicate the appearance of lead.

  • Balconies
  • Garage roofs
  • Lead replacement
  • Asbestos repair
  • Asphalt roofing
  • Gutters and valleys

Expansion and contraction

Fibrecoat has unique flexible properties that allow for the system to easily withstand normal building movement and thermal expansion and contraction without the need for Fibretrim expansion joints.

Movement in roofs is mainly caused by thermal expansion and contraction of the roof structure or insulation. Thermal expansion occurs when your roof heats up and cools down from increases in temperature or changes in weather conditions. These movements must be taken into account and allowed for in the design of the roof or premature failure could occur.
To combat the effects of thermal expansion and contraction, our engineering team developed FibreFlex, a technology that enhances the products flexibility without adding any after market additives which can lead to problems in the life cycle of a roof membrane.

Suitable substrates

Fibrecoat can be used as part of a new roof configuration or can be applied directly onto the existing roof covering without the need for over-decking, extra carrier layers or mechanical fixings.

For new flat roofs we recommed OSB3 which has been specifically designed for demanding roofing applications including flat and pitched roofs in both cold and warm configurations along with roof cassettes and dormer windows. The boards are available to purchase in various configurations but we recommend the 18mm 8×2 board with tongue & groove profiled edges.

Norboard and SmartPly are products that Allbase recommend, they are probably the two best know brands that are readily available in the UK and both carry the FSC label, which means the wood is taken from responsibly managed woodlands.

Applying Fibrecoat to an existing roofing surface allows for low-cost refurbishment with minimum disruption and reduced environmental impact. Fibrecoat can be applied over a number of different surfaces including asbestos and felt. For more details check out the Fibrecoat substrate guide.

Foot traffic

The Fibrecoat Roofing system is available with non-slip finishes for walkways and heavy foot traffic. A Non-slip finish should be specified for high traffic areas and provides perfect protection for normal use on terraces, balconies and walkways. While the surface finish in anti-slip it will not eliminate the risk of slipping, particularly in winter conditions where ice has formed.
